A City Center


In part due to its location at the end of Unter den Linden, the city's main east-west axis, Pariser Platz became a social center of Berlin during the 19th century. The prominent citizens residing in the elegant housing on the square saw park elements, such as fountains (bottom right), added gradually over the years.
