Last year she spent six months in Berlin, under the massive illusion that she was going to school. What she was really doing, however, was living in a very eccentric "loft" which was technically office space not zoned for residence. The "Loftschloss" (loft-castle) was in a bizarre building in the middle of Kreuzberg (which, by the way, no matter what anyone says, is by far the best and most interesting area in Berlin), with a mosque upstairs and a tire shop downstairs. When the landlady came over she had to hide, which would have been fine, had the loft had any walls or other major conveniences to speak of. She and her entourage of five psychotic German flatmates spent most of her time there attempting to build rooms in the loft while not killing each other. She got away just in time. |
