Project Manager: Katie Hoople '11
The Medical Initiative, headed by Katie Hoople, is currently working on establishing a traveling clinic to aid the people of Chermaitre and surrounding villages. To establish this clinic, we are working in conjunction with the Cap Haitien Health Network, an organization based out of Cap Haitien a city on the North coast of Haiti. Excitingly, the Cap Haitien Health Network already has two doctors participating in similar traveling clinics.
We hope to establish a base for the traveling clinic in L'Acul, a village near the foot of the mountain on which Chermaitre is located. Projects of utmost importance right now revolve around fund raising and soliciting potential donors for medical supplies.
Also, we are hoping to procure a 4 x 4 car or truck which can be donated to the project which can be used to by our contact in Haiti, Pere Jean Lenord Quatorze as he visits the seven villages under his watch.
I've been involved in the project since freshman year and am drawn to it because of its humanitarian aspect. I am drawn to the project largely because of the close link between Vassar and Chermaitre, and the absence of intermediary corporate organizations.
