Description
of Research |
Dr. Mead's research involves laser physics: Development of solid state and fiber lasers with two-frequency orthogonally polarized output. These lasers may be used in laser ranging, differential absorption lidar, optical communication, and heterodyne interferometry systems; Optoelectronic Packaging: Development of computer software that analyzes thermal and stress fields in high power semiconductor diode laser arrays, and fiber-pigtailed optical sources. She also investigates failure mechanisms for a variety of optoelectronic components using a physics of failure approach; Fiber-Optic Sensors: Development of fiber-optic sensors for biomedical, manufacturing engineering and smart structure applications; Science Education: Portable science education experiments for middle and high school students. |
