Description
of Research |
Dr. Rivera is involved in a comprehensive research program in the field of process control that addresses the substantial gaps between theory and application. The overall objectives of this program are to examine the development of emerging and migratory systems technologies applied to process systems. Among the research thrusts being investigated: 1) the implementation of advanced robust and constrained control in distributed control systems. 2) the development of advanced system identification tools for modeling the dynamics of complex chemical systems. 3) the interaction between process design and process control. The Control Systems Engineering Laboratory headed by Dr. Rivera has strong ties with Honeywell Industrial Automation and Control and is one of the few academic institutions in the nation with an industrial-scale real-time process control testbed. |
