Description
of Research |
The mechanical alloying processing technique is used to synthesize novel metallic, composite, polymeric and electronic ceramic materials. Mechanical alloying is a high energy ball milling process which occurs at room temperature and, hence, circumvents many of the problems associated with high temperature alloying, blending and solid state transformation reactions. X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and electron and optical microscopy are used to study the morphology of phases and reaction kinetics. Dr. Aning's current projects include amorphous reinforced metal matrix composites, synthesis of electrooptic PLZT ceramics, and processing of biodegradable materials for fracture fixation rod. |
