Description
of Research |
A new fuzzy adaptive neural network on line controller with certain unique features not present in other competitive controllers was developed in Dr. Esogbue's laboratory recently. He is now investigating its properties via several experiments with testbed problems and perturbations induced by statistical design of experiments considerations and certain theoretical exercises. Continuing research is being conducted on design aspects of the controller, its implementation, and its application to practical and complex nonlinear processes. Dr. Esogbue is also currently exploring the use of certain optimization techniques, principally dynamic programming and high level computational methods, to enhance the capabilities of this neuro-fuzzy adaptive controller. Work in this area has led to the development of a new type of fuzzy clustering named fuzzy criterion clustering. This is based on the concept of fuzzy prototype as opposed to crisp prototype. Its utility in improving the operation of the controller and application to a wide array of clustering and pattern recognition problems are of special interest. Successful applications to power systems stabilization problems and some space craft docking and tether control problems have been recently demonstrated. |
