If people of the past knew what we know now of Hitler's plans to expand Germany and establish one superior race, they should have prevented him and not turned their backs to his actions. The concentration camps were products of his regime, so I assume I'll hate them just as much as every other aspect of Nazism. My family did not lose anyone to the Holocaust, so I think I have a more objective view, maybe. Even still, the atrocities and war crimes that were committed at those concetrations camps were unimaginable and would have great significance for anyone who valued innocent human life. That's why I think they are important, to remind Germany today that they can never allow something like that happen again.
