Major: English (German History correlate)

Why Germany? It's in my blood. I'm a second generation American (half German, half Russian). My mother's parents fled Berlin to England in 1938, and soon settled in the United States. I have always been fascinated with Germany, and when I came to Vassar, I made an effort to educate myself about my heritage. The first step was learning the language, which was not an academic success. But, I managed to participate in the Vassar Münster Program that summer, where I lived with a gourmet chef and gained 15 pounds! I also learned German by living there. The wildest experience of my trip there was visiting Nordhausen (near Weimar), the town where my grandfather was born.
